Safari Lodge Rates by Season: Serengeti, Masai Mara and Mount Kenya

What a night at Four Seasons Serengeti, Fairmont Mara Safari Club and Mount Kenya Safari Club costs by month, and the migration months that never even price.

The Serengeti in the dry season. On the room we track at Four Seasons Serengeti, a typical night is $1,655; the migration months are not on sale at all.

Safari pricing has a calendar of its own, and it is not the one the brochures print. We track a room every night at three East African safari lodges, Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti in Tanzania, Fairmont Mara Safari Club on the Masai Mara and Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club at Nanyuki, plus Park Hyatt Zanzibar for the beach days most safaris end with. Their twelve-month curves, read on 15 August 2026, agree on the shape: the long rains of April and May are the floor, July to September and January to February are the peaks, and at the one lodge inside the Serengeti itself the peak does not price at all, because it is already gone.

fermata.travel · nightly observations · two adults, USD · Serengeti shows no bookable dates on the tracked room for the June to August migration months

Four properties, one rains-and-migration calendar. The Serengeti panel is blank from June to August because nothing on that room is on sale.

The Serengeti: the peak sells out before it prices

Four Seasons Serengeti is the most expensive of the four and the most seasonal. January and February, calving season on the southern plains, sit at $2,016 a night; September and October, when the herds are back in the north and the dry season is at its height, sit at $1,919 and $1,831; the long rains of April and May drop the same room to $1,258, some 38 percent below the January figure. That is a big swing, and it is still not the headline.

The headline is what is missing. On the room we track, there are no bookable dates for the rest of August 2026 and none for June or July 2027 (August 2027 sits past our twelve-month window): the migration river-crossing months show nothing on general sale at all. We read that as sold out, or not released to the booking engine, rather than as a price. Either way the practical rule is the same: for the migration months at a lodge inside the park, the constraint is the room, not the rate. Book the season you want as early as the lodge lets you, on a refundable rate if one exists, and let price tracking do its work inside the months that do price.

The Masai Mara: a gentler curve, a Kenyan calendar

Across the border, Fairmont Mara Safari Club, a tented camp on the Mara River, runs a milder year: $915 to $968 from January to March, a step up to $1,244 in April, back to $920 in May, then a plateau of $1,128 to $1,298 from June to September that peaks in August when the crossings reach the Mara. November is the quiet valley at $929, December climbs again to $1,174 for the holidays. The priciest month runs 42 percent above the cheapest on the same tent, and unlike the Serengeti, every month prices: if you want the migration in the Mara and can flex a week or two, the tent is on sale.

Mount Kenya: the value play

Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club at Nanyuki, on the equator below the mountain, is a different proposition at a different price: $444 typical, $344 in April, and a short sharp peak of $677 in July and $628 in August when the northern-summer holidays land. Nine months of the year sit between $373 and $476. It is a lodge you add to a safari rather than the safari itself, and it is the clearest illustration in the set of how narrow the real peak is: outside July and August, the month barely moves the price.

Zanzibar: the beach that shares the season

Most safaris end at the coast, so Park Hyatt Zanzibar belongs in the same calendar. Its curve is the Serengeti's in miniature: $343 in April and $361 in May during the rains, $488 to $506 through June and July, an August peak of $596, then a drop to $370 in September, a small bump in October, and $362 to $381 in November and December. Pairing the Mara in a shoulder month with Zanzibar in September or November is the cheapest version of the classic two-centre trip on these curves.

How to use this

Two rules come out of the numbers. First, if the trip is the migration, book the room before you optimise the rate: at the lodge inside the Serengeti the peak months are not even priced, and in the Mara the peak is on sale but is the top of the curve. Second, if the trip is the animals rather than the crossings, April, May and November sit 20 to 50 percent below the peak months on the same room, and the game does not leave. Whichever it is, open the property page, pick the exact room you mean to book, read its curve to place today's quote, and set a target: we re-check every night and email you when it drops to your number.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a night at Four Seasons Serengeti cost? For the Horizon king room its page shows, a typical $1,655 a night as of 15 August 2026, from $1,258 in April and May to $2,016 in January and February. June to August show no bookable dates on that room.

When is the cheapest time for a safari lodge? April and May, the long rains, at three of the four properties here: $1,258 at Four Seasons Serengeti, $344 at Fairmont Mount Kenya and $343 at Park Hyatt Zanzibar. The Mara is the exception: it bottoms in February and March at $915 and again in May at $920, with April a holiday bump.

When is a safari most expensive? July to September for the Mara, Mount Kenya and Zanzibar, and January to February plus September to October at the Serengeti lodge, whose June to August peak is not on general sale at all.

Why does the Serengeti chart have a gap? Because the room we track shows nothing bookable for those months. We do not fill a missing month with a guess; a blank is the honest reading, and it tells you the constraint is availability, not price.
