Know when to book. Not whether
Fermata shows a room price history and where today sits against it, so the call to book is evidence based. Think of it as a price-history chart for a specific hotel room.

How it works
Pick the exact room
The room and dates you are weighing, at the hotel you have in mind.
Read the history, then set your price
See the months behind it. A low, a median, a spike. Then name the number you would book at.
We email you the moment it hits
We watch every night and tell you when the room reaches your target. You decide with the record in front of you.
Do hotel prices go down closer to the date?
Sometimes, and the honest answer is per room. Entry categories are steered hard by occupancy: when a date is selling slowly the base rate sags, and when it is selling well the same rate climbs into the final weeks. Top categories behave differently. A suite or a villa tends to hold its level and reprice in larger, rarer steps, because the hotel would rather sit on it than discount it early.
So the rule of thumb you are looking for does not really exist. The same hotel can reward waiting on one room and punish it on another, in the same week. What does exist is the record: how this room has priced across the season, where today sits against that, and which way it has been moving.
That is the question Fermata is built to answer. Every tracked room carries a forward curve of bookable rates up to 330 days out and its own nightly history, so "book now or wait" stops being a hunch and becomes a reading.
Percentiles beat rules of thumb
A useful timing decision needs two facts: what this room typically asks, and what it asks today. If today sits in the bottom quarter of the room’s own range for your season, waiting is a gamble against a good hand. If it sits near the top, a target below today is well supported by the record.
Fermata shows exactly that reading: the typical level, the lows, the spikes, and today marked against them. Set your target where the record says the room actually trades, and let the tracker do the waiting.
There is a price-history tracker for Amazon. There is one for flights. For a specific luxury hotel room, there was not
Now there is. See months of nightly rates for the exact room, where today sits against them, and which way the trend is moving.

Questions
Do hotel prices drop closer to the date?
Sometimes. It depends on the room and the season, which is exactly why you watch the specific room own history rather than a rule of thumb.
When is the cheapest time to book?
There is no single answer across hotels. The forward curve for your room shows its own seasonal lows, so you book against that room pattern, not a generic one.
Is last minute cheaper for luxury hotels?
Occasionally a rate sags into the final days, but the desirable categories also simply sell out, and then the question is moot. The record for your specific room shows which pattern it follows; we would rather show you that than promise a trick.
Does Fermata predict prices?
No. We show the record: the room’s own history, its typical level, and where today sits. The judgement stays yours, made with evidence instead of a countdown timer.
Is the price history real data?
Yes. Nightly observations of the publicly bookable rate for the room you chose.
